James David Byrd Jr., 93, of East Brainerd passed away June 30, 2018 in a local healthcare center.A native of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, Mr. Byrd was a proud graduate of the University of North Carolina.He was a retired Electrical Engineer from Raytheon Co. after many years of service.Mr. Byrd served in the US Navy during WWII and was a longtime member of the Brainerd Masonic Lodge #736 F&AM.He was preceded in death by his parents, James David Byrd Sr. and Lillian Lucille Steger Byrd; his son, James David Byrd III; and his brother, Richard Edward Byrd.Mr. Byrd is survived by his wife of 50 years, Francese Winifred Byrd; two sons, Stephen Patrick Byrd Henshaw and Christopher Alan Byrd; step-children, George Shuman and Kimberly Shuman.Visit www.heritagechattanooga.com to share condolences to the family.There will be no services at this time however Mr. Byrd’s remains will be placed at the Chattanooga National Cemetery at a future date.Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 E.
